A girl, a guy, a broken down truck, a coffee shop, and rain.
"Joshua's face turned upwards, and he blinked against the rain. "Sure is coming down, huh? I'm soaked." His eyes found hers again. He seemed to be mulling something over. "Why don't I give you a ride?"
Sarah tilted her head. Never take a ride from a stranger flashed across her mind. But weren't circumstances at least slightly different when the man had just tried to save your purse from certain doom at the hands of two thugs? "Are you sure? I really don't want to put you out of your way. I'd get your car all wet. I'm already dripping. I could just--"
He shook his head, cutting her off. "Let me give you a ride home." He looked like he was going to laugh. "I promise I'm safe."
She blushed. "How did you know that's what I was thinking?" Had she just said that? Oh, good grief...
"Oh, no reason, really." His eyes were twinkling. "Yes?"

"Taking a breath and releasing it, I slid from my position against the cold plaster and eased around the edge.
This was my chance. The one for which I'd been waiting, watching, and desperately hoping.
A chance to see the Outside.
It's forbidden, my mind screamed. Against the Order. My footsteps echoed against the empty space, sounding loud in my own ears. You're going against the Order. Don't you know what you're doing...to yourself, to your family? Don't you know what happens to the rebellious? Death by-- "Stop!" I said, loudly, breath huffing. I sucked in a great gulp of air as everything inside me cringed. I swallowed the lump in my throat and waited for the pounding of footsteps. Surely I'd just alerted the whole compound. Sweat dripped from my hairline into my eye. I blinked rapidly.
This was the end. I was sure of it."

"Just
a few steps into my quest, I see him. He's across the room, eyes roving
the place, still in his military uniform. And then Noah sees me too,
and he begins to walk in my direction, nearly crashing into a few
people. He starts jogging, and suddenly I'm running too. It wasn't very
far, so before I can even think he's wrapping his arms around me and
squeezing me so tight I can barely breathe. I place my arms around his
waist and bury my face in his chest."
